Case packages · Getting started

Download a case. Evaluate it in your own project.

The website provides individual case packages and walkthroughs. Import, calculations and business actions happen in the DataFocus environment you sign in to.

  1. 01

    Choose one business case

Read the audience, dataset size and walkthrough, then download that case’s ZIP. Each file contains one case; you do not need the entire library. Keep its filename and version, and do not unpack and repackage it.

  2. 02

Run the precheck in your DataFocus

Sign in to your product environment, open the case import entry in project management (/project/cases), upload the ZIP and review the precheck. The product checks package structure, required capabilities and current permissions. If the entry is missing or capabilities are unavailable, check your product version first.

  3. 03

Import an independent project and wait for completion

After reviewing the precheck, start the import and keep its task record. A successful upload or submitted task does not mean the import is complete. Wait for READY before opening the case. Large datasets can take considerable time; a page timeout is not a reason to create another project.

  4. 04

Follow the walkthrough, then change one input

Inspect the data, relationships, knowledge and business panels, then follow the case detail steps. Check the evidence before changing an input and recalculating. Your current product account and resource permissions still govern actions; historical approvals do not grant authority in a new instance.

After the walkthrough

Reuse an export. Review what it contains.

A product version with case export support can export your modified instance as a snapshot and import it as an independent copy. A snapshot may include instance data; it is not a definitions-only template. If you replace the example with your business data, review the actual exported content before sharing it.

If something goes wrong

Keep the version and task record.

Precheck did not pass
Follow the message to check capabilities, capacity and account permissions. Do not edit package declarations to bypass the check.
Import is still running
Check the original task status. The full retail package contains over 530,000 rows and can take hours to import.
A business action is unavailable
Check current resource permissions, data state and whether recalculation is needed. Imported history is not current authorization.
Need further help
Include the case ID, version, task status and error message. Keep passwords, tokens and original business records out of public questions. Help and support
